Our Migration Plan Roadmap
Common Websphere Migration Questions asked to our gurus
Q#1: Can we run multiple versions of Websphere on the same machine
Answer: Running different versions of WebSphere on a machine at the same time are allowed. E.g. v6.1 supports v5.0, v5.1, v6.0 and v6.1
With V6.1 Mixed cell support
- Nodes at different versions are supported in the same cell.
- Different OS platforms are supported in the same cell
- v6.0.2.x nodes can be added directly
- Supports v5.0, v5.1, v6.0 and v6.1
Q#2: Does V6.1 run on AIX 5.2 Servers?
Answer: Yes, its can run on AIX v5.2 but required some AIX maintenance packages.
- AIX 6.1 with Recommended Maintenance package 6100-00-01-0748
- AIX 5L 5.2 with Recommended Maintenance package 5200-07 (32 and 64-bit kernel support)
- AIX 5L 5.3 with Service Pack 5300-04-01 (32 and 64-bit kernel support)
Q#3: We have application server 6.1. Do we need to upgrade IBM HTTP Server before running in Hybrid Mode?
Answer: Yes, because in Hybrid Mode, Deployment Manager must always be at highest version and IBM HTTP Server version 2.0.42.2 plug-in does not match with Dmgr version 6.1.
Q#4: Is web server Plug-In 6.0 supported with application server 6.1
Answer:

Q#5: We are Migrating from WAS v6.0 to v6.1 and currently using Rational Application Developer v6.0. Do we need to do migration of our development environment from v6.0 to v6.1 also?
Answer: RAD 6.0 uses JDK 1.4 and RAD 7.0 uses JDK 5.0. In order to utilize the newer libraries of the JDK you will have to migrate to v6.1
